Margaret Van Emmerik

What is there to tell about me?

I was born in Goondiwindi, Queensland, Australia and lived my formative years on a farm about eight kilometres east of Yelarbon. I attended primary school at Yelarbon and secondary school at Inglewood, after which I persued a career with the Queensland Police Service. I completed 3 years training as a police cadet, finsihing my senior education at the same time. I was sworn in as a police officer in December, 1977. I served in many and varied places and establishments, all metropolitan, save for a small tour of duty at Kingaroy. I achieved the rank of sergeant and resigned after twenty one and a half years sworn service.

I met Michael in 1992 and married him in 1994. Felicity, our pride and joy, was born in 2000.

Michael introduced me to the internet some time late in 1994 and there began an interesting romance with it. I started in 1995 with a page on eradication of slugs and snails with most of the information contributed by or harvested from members of a gardening group to which I used to subscribe. I then established a page on household hints, tips and money savers which survives today.

I experienced declining health until 2002 when I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder, a type of vasculitis, called Wegener's Granulomatosis. Treatment for that has been quite aggressive. I have become quite interested in the disease, probably through necessity. Being a rare disease, I frequently have to explain what it is and how it impacts on my life. Most people have never heard of it.

Here is a brief outline of my areas of interest. It is currently under construction with new links anticipated in the near future.
